Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the ZedTranslate API, developer portal, and related services (“Service”) provided by ZedTranslate (“we”, “us”, or “our”).

By creating an account, accessing the developer portal, or using the ZedTranslate API, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of the Service

ZedTranslate provides a cloud-based API that enables developers to integrate text translation functionality—primarily for Zambian local languages—into their applications.

The Service includes:

  • A developer portal
  • API endpoints for translation
  • Authentication and API key management
  • Usage limits and quotas

The Service may evolve over time.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old, or have legal authority to bind an organization.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activity performed using your account or API keys

You agree to provide accurate and complete information during registration.

3. Authentication and API Keys

Access to the API requires a registered developer account and a valid API key issued by ZedTranslate.

You agree:

  • Not to share API keys publicly
  • Not to embed API keys in client-side code exposed to users
  • To rotate or revoke compromised keys immediately

We may suspend or revoke API keys at any time if misuse or abuse is detected.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Abuse, overload, or disrupt the API
  • Circumvent rate limits or quotas
  • Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or deceptive purposes
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer or exploit the system
  • Use the Service to generate or distribute illegal or abusive content

5. Usage Limits and Quotas

API usage is subject to character limits, rate limits, and fair use policies. Exceeding limits may result in temporary throttling, suspension, or service denial.

6. Service Availability and Changes

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy of translations, or error-free operation.

7. Intellectual Property

All rights, title, and interest in the Service remain the property of ZedTranslate. You retain ownership of your input text.

8. Data and Privacy

Use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. API requests may be logged for security, monitoring, and quality improvement.

9. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if these Terms are violated or if abuse is detected.

10. Limitation of Liability

ZedTranslate shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or loss of data resulting from your use of the Service.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify ZedTranslate from any claims arising out of your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
